Gravitant announces cloudMatrix 7.0, extending the end-to-end capabilities of its cloud service brokerage software across the cloud lifecycle

February 5, 2014

Customers can now optimize critical aspects of their application portfolio from where to run applications to financial management

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Gravitant today announced the seventh generation of cloudMatrix, its award-winning cloudMatrix brokerage and management platform. cloudMatrix has successfully enabled customers to deliver an IT-as-a-service model and forge a closer connection between IT and the business. Normally, the relationship between business and IT is stuck at the service request or “trouble ticket” process. But cloudMatrix re-defines the relationship by providing a common collaboration and synchronization platform between business and IT. The 7.0 release of cloudMatrix extends this collaboration across the entire solution lifecycle from initial sourcing to enhanced financial management and governance of the cloud spend.

cloudMatrix 7.0 will help Solution Providers and Enterprise IT organizations provide a standardized means to screen applications for cloud readiness as well as govern the end-to-end cloud financial process, and will also help Government agencies more easily comply with the Antideficiency act:

  • Customers can now rapidly and easily determine the cloud readiness of their application portfolio using an analytics-based knowledge engine.
  • Customers get enhanced active financial management tools to control spend through budget policy for each application running in the cloud. Enhanced financial management includes contract price and pricing rules management.

“The latest edition of cloudMatrix extends Gravitant’s leadership in aligning IT processes with business outcomes at each step of the IT lifecycle from planning to governance,” said Mohammed Farooq, CEO of Gravitant. “cloudMatrix is the most comprehensive and longest running cloud business platform across the IT lifecycle. These new 7.0 features, combined with existing cloudMatrix features such as Discovery, Sync, Analytics and Control, further make cloud processes enterprise class.”

In working with our customers, Gravitant identified that many wanted an easier, quicker and more cost-effective ability to determine what applications should move to the cloud and, of those applications, what prioritization and ordering should be followed. In response, Gravitant has introduced an Application Screener module to cloudMatrix to provide this capability in a standardized manner. The application screener will provide two recommendations: (1) The benefit and readiness of moving the application to a cloud, and (2) the type of infrastructure that is best suited for the application (physical, virtual, private cloud, commodity public cloud, enterprise public cloud, PaaS, and SaaS).

Customers are struggling with how to best use the ever-expanding variety of cloud services available to them for their business needs,” said William Fellows, Research Vice President, 451 Group. “They need a way to make rational decisions when choosing environments to host applications and workloads, a practice known as best execution venue strategies. Gravitant’s cloudMatrix platform will help customers with decision support on where to optimally run their portfolio of applications as well as provide the tools to manage them in the cloud.”

A January 2014Gartner Research forecast predicts that public cloud IaaS (compute and storage) spending will increase by 52% in 2014. With cloud spend growing so rapidly across IT organizations, many financial and IT managers are unsettled by the lack of visibility and controls on cloud spend, especially in an on-demand consumption model. Gravitant’s Financial Management eschews the stand-alone, point tool approach of other vendors. It is part of a tiered governance system that starts with an Estimated Bill of IT and extends to integration with existing financial management system such as Oracle Financials. Gravitant provides the only governance platform in the industry that maintains coherence between IT processes and financial systems through an integrated data structure that begins with application infrastructure design and flows through to the final cloud services that are actually provisioned.

With the 7.0 release, Gravitant has enhanced its financial management capabilities to include:

  • Budget, contract management, and order process governance
  • Consolidated billing and billing integration with external and internal clouds
  • Application-centric chargeback dashboards, cost trending and breakdown dashboards, and spend reports by end-customer, provider, and budget.
