PEKIN (CIHAN)- VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished down 0.08 percent on Tuesday. The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 0.97 points to 1,239.77. A total of 8,614 shares worth about 57 million Lao kip (about 7,125 U.S. dollars ) changed hands. ---- WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stocks fell on Tuesday, tracking a global decline, as investors' fears of faltering economic recovery were exacerbated by poor manufacturing data in the United States and China . The sharemarket closed 1 percent lower with the benchmark NZX- 50 index falling 46.88 points to 4802.62 and a turnover of 123.8 million NZ dollars (100.25 million U.S. dollars). ---- SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Tuesday with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) plunging 33.11 points, or 1.72 percent, to close at 1,886.85. Trading volume stood at 246.73 million shares worth 4.43 trillion won ( 4.1 billion U.S. dollars ). The South Korean currency finished at 1,083.8 won against the greenback, up 0.7 won from Monday's close. ---- TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks tumbled on Tuesday, with the Nikkei index ending 4.18 percent lower, hitting the lowest closing level since last October. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dived 610.66 points, from Monday at 14,008.47, its lowest finish since Oct. 8 . ---- MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 2.15 percent lower on Tuesday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index dived by 129.29 points to 5,886.01. The all-share index also slid by 66.61 points, or 1.82 percent, to 3,589.82. ---- HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks dropped 637.65 points, or 2.89 percent to close at 21,397.77 points on Tuesday, the first trading day after Chinese Lunar New Year holidays. The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,609.59 and 21, 388.61. Turnover totaled 75.69 billion HK dollars (about 9.75 billion U.S. dollars ) ( 1 U.S. dollar = 7.76 HK dollars ). ---- KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,778.83 down 25. 20 points or 1.42 percent, and the Emas was at 12,292.19 down 164. 14 points or 1.34 percent. There were 214 gainers, 494 losers and 291 counters traded unchanged. ---- SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 25.15 points, or 0.84 percent, to close at 2,965.80. A total of 1.98 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 26 billion Singapore dollars ( 1.0 billion U.S. dollars ). ---- MUMBAI -- The benchmark index of the Indian equities market closed higher on Tuesday with the 30-scrip sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange , Sensex, closing at 20211.93 points, 2.67 points or 0.01 percent higher from the previous close of 20209.26 points.
