Feb. 04 --The Brand Finance Banking 500 study, released Monday, again ranked Wells Fargo & Co. as having the most valuable global brand, as well as the top U.S. brand. The study assesses the dollar value of the reputation, image and intellectual property of the world's top 500 financial-services companies. The majority of U.S. and global banks had experienced a decline in brand value during 2011 because of the lingering effects of the financial crisis that began in 2007 and the European financial crisis. Wells Fargo was rated as having a brand value of $30.2 billion for 2014, up 16.1 percent from 2013. It has an "AAA-" brand rating compared with "AA+" in 2013. Bank of America Corp. rose one spot on the global ranking to third with a brand value of $26.7 billion , up 19.1 percent. Other banks with a North Carolina presence include: PNC Financial Services Group at 51st, down one spot, and brand value of $4.41 billion , down 3.6 percent; BB&T Corp , 74th, down from 64th in 2103, and $2.74 billion , down 3.2 percent; SunTrust Banks Inc. , 88th, down from 79th in 2013, and $2.19 billion , down 7.2 percent; Fifth Third Bancorp , 106th, down from 100th in 2013, and $1.75 billion , down 3.8 percent; and First Citizens Bancshares Inc. , 297th, down from 261st, and $353 million , down 7.3 percent. ___ (c)2014 Winston-Salem Journal (Winston Salem, N.C.)
