Feb. 03 -- TAMPA -- The developers of SkyHouse Channelside, the Channel District's newest apartment tower, will break ground Tuesday morning on its 320-unit project. Mayor Bob Buckhorn will be on hand for the groundbreaking at 10:30 a.m. The 23-story tower is going up at 12th Street between Washington and Whiting streets. The developers, Novare Group and Batson-Cook Development Co. , announced last month they had arranged financing for the project. Buckhorn will meet the developers for a celebratory dinner tonight at Bern's Steak House in Hyde Park . Novare Group was one of the partners in downtown Tampa's Element and SkyPoint towers, which opened in 2007. The developers expect the new tower to add 400 residents to the Channel District , one of Tampa's fastest-growing neighborhoods. The most recent census estimates show the Channel District's largest population is in the 25-29 age group. More than a quarter of the district, 2,180 people, are in that category. Another 20 percent are between 30 and 34. Together, those age brackets make up the demographic sweet spot for Novare, and other developers planning new projects in downtown Tampa . Mercury Advisers, is finalizing its plans for The Martin, also in the Channel District , and plans to break ground itself before the end of March, said Mercury co-owner Ken Stoltenberg . Across downtown, the developers of the Element and SkyPoint towers says they'll start work on the Residences on the Riverwalk project in June. That tower will require realigning Tyler Street where it reaches the Straz Center for the Performing Arts . All three projects expect to wrap up in 2015. firstname.lastname@example.org (813) 259-7871 Twitter: @kwiatrowskiTBO ___ (c)2014 the Tampa Tribune (Tampa, Fla.)
