ENP Newswire - 26 February 2014
Release date- 25022014 - ORLANDO, FLORIDA - GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) today announced that its Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia software is rated by KLAS as Category Leader in the '2013 Best in KLAS: Software and Services' report that recognizes the technology and service organizations that excelled in helping providers deliver better patient care.
In the report, GE Healthcare's anesthesia software scored 87.5, over 4 points ahead of the next ranked AIMS provider.
In a KLAS Alert1, providers on average rated GE Healthcare Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia 8 out of 9 for having received their money's worth, as they reported the software to be easy to use and reliable. Providers praised the software's usability, noting that it helped to drive better patient care and department revenue.
In a customer quote, one executive told KLAS: 'GE's development priorities seem to be genuinely driven by physician interests and not solely by business concerns. We believe Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia has helped us elevate the standard of care we can provide our patients through checklists, intelligent prompts, automated notifications, and timers for reducing antibiotics and other safety checks the technology is employed at the point of care where we can really make a difference, rather than simply reporting it at a later point in time.'
Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia can help healthcare providers improve the financial, clinical and administrative performance of the perioperative area which can drive up to 60% of revenue and 35% to 40% of costs in a hospital.3
At the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville (UTMCK), on-time first case starts raised by 16% (from an average of 72% to 88%) when a patient underwent a pre-operative anesthetic evaluation where the information was captured using Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia.4 The GE Healthcare software has also helped UTMCK create a 'fast-track' system that allows medically appropriate patients to bypass the recovery room after surgery, alleviating recovery room congestion, reducing the labor burden and cost, and increasing patient satisfaction. UTMCK has found roughly half of its patients eligible for fast tracking. 5
Graeme Allan, General Manager for High Acuity Care, GE Healthcare IT said: 'Anesthesiologists lead the workflow that supports more than half of a hospital's revenue.6 Our system provides a workflow for the entire Perioperative area throughout all the phases of care, from Pre-op through PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) and even on to areas outside the Periop such as Labor & Delivery units.'
Additionally, the software allows data to be transmitted to the Anesthesiology Quality Institute where comparisons to national benchmarks can be made. In this way, anesthesiologists are continually in a position to enhance quality by better measuring the parameters and outcomes of every case.
In addition to GE Healthcare being named as Category Leader for Anesthesia, API Healthcare recently acquired by GE Healthcare, has been awarded 'Category Leader' status in the '2013 KLAS: Software and Services' report for the Time and Attendance (for API Healthcare Time and Attendance) and Nurse/Staff Scheduling (for API Healthcare Staffing and Scheduling) categories. API Healthcare is the largest healthcare-specific vendor focused on workforce management solutions, and also the architect of the revolutionary revolutionary Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange (HwIE).
