Feb. 27--EBENSBURG -- The Cambria County Commissioners are expected to adopt an ordinance on Thursday as the first step in guaranteeing a loan for the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport Authority.

The guarantee, which must first be approved by the state, will allow the authority to take out a short-term loan to pay contractors working on the fuel farm at the Richland Township airport.

Repayment of the loan, which will be taken out at a local bank, will be made when the authority receives promised money from the state.

The county must get involved because it has the ability to levy taxes, something the authority cannot do, county solicitor Thomas Leiden said.

The fuel farm is well under construction with completion set for late April, an authority official said Wednesday.
