Tokyo stocks fall on profit taking

TOKYO, Feb. 26 -- (Kyodo) _ Tokyo stocks declined on profit taking in lackluster Wednesday trading following the Nikkei's advance to a one-month high the previous day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 80.63 points, or 0.54 percent, from Tuesday at 14,970.97. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 8.31 points, or 0.67 percent, lower at 1,225.35.

The oil, retail and insurance sectors were the hardest hit while shipping, utility and pharmaceutical shares gained ground.
