ENP Newswire - 25 February 2014
Release date- 24022014 - Symetra, a national provider of employee benefits, annuities and life insurance, announced that Keryl Robinson is the recipient of the company's 2013 CEO Service Award.
The annual award recognizes Symetra employees for exemplary community service. Robinson is a sales associate in Symetra's Benefits Division and works in the company's Enfield, Conn., office.
As part of the CEO Service award, Symetra donates $1,000 to the nonprofit organization of the winner's choice. Robinson is directing her award to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy in West Hartford, Conn. Established in 1977, the Conservancy is dedicated to assisting the City of Hartford in the maintenance and preservation of Elizabeth Park's gardens and grounds. The 2.1-acre park is the country's oldest public rose garden and the third largest in the United States.
'Keryl Robinson is an active member of Symetra's Service Squad, our employee volunteer team, and she exemplifies what it means to give back to back to your community,' said Symetra CEO Tom Marra, who selected Robinson for the honor. In addition to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy, Robinson is involved with East Hartford Interfaith Ministries, My Sisters' Place of Hartford, Toys for Tots and the Friendship Center Soup Kitchen, East Hartford. Her dedication earned her more than one nomination for the CEO Service Award.
Robinson prefers to keep the focus on the work of the Conservancy and Elizabeth Park itself. 'It's a park with so much history in the Hartford community. Almost everything is done by volunteers and people from all over Connecticut come to help out,' says Robinson. 'Some of the rose varieties are hundreds of years old and people from all over the world come to see them. They don't have to pay anything . . . just be one with nature and enjoy.'
In June 2013, Robinson was instrumental in organizing a team of Symetra employees to volunteer at Elizabeth Park as part of the annual companywide Symetra Week of Service. Some two dozen Enfield office employees, including Robinson and joined by Marra, were among the volunteers who pulled weeds and trimmed bushes. 'I just love the fact that Symetra places an emphasis on being a good corporate citizen and encourages us to give back to the communities we live and work in. I'm very happy about that.'
