MILWAUKEE, Feb. 24 -- Milwaukee Area Technical College issued the following news:
Milwaukee Area Technical College will host the 11th annual "Sustainability Summit and Exposition" Wednesday-Friday, March 26-28. The theme of this year's summit is "Conserving the Future Together." The summit is coordinated by business, education and government representatives. Previously called the Green Energy Summit, the name of the event was changed in 2013 to reflect the broadened scope of the conference, which encompasses systems and practices that sustain the economy and planet for future generations.
On March 26-27, plenary and breakout sessions with local, regional, national and international experts will be held at the Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. In conjunction with the summit, a career fair featuring approximately 40 employers with openings in a variety of fields from green jobs to manufacturing will be held from 2-5 p.m.March 26 at the Wisconsin Center. Workshops will be held March 28 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education Conference Center, 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., 7th Floor (Plankinton Building, Grand Avenue Mall).
The public is invited. Registration is $250 for the full conference or $150 for one day. Students will be admitted free of charge. Dr. Michael L. Burke, MATC president; George Stone, chair of the summit and MATC instructor of natural science; and Paul W. Jones, executive chairman of the board of A.O. Smith Corporation; will formally open the summit at 8:25 a.m.March 26.
Stone will chair plenary sessions during the summit. Other prominent speakers include Ed Begley, Jr., author, actor and environmental advocate; Michael E. Mann, distinguished professor of meteorology and director, Earth System Science Center, Penn State; Charles A. Schrock, chairman, Integrys Energy Group; and Will Allen, CEO of Green Power. Last year's summit attracted more than 3,000 registrations and approximately 150 speakers.
