In conjunction with the 175th Loras College commencement at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in the Rock Bowl Stadium, honorary degrees will be given to:
* Dan Gable for his contributions to international wrestling and dedication to eradicating sexual violence. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. Gable also speaks out against sexual violence. Gable coached at the University of Iowa after wrestling for Iowa State University.
* Loras Regent Emeritus Andrew Studdert for his service during 9/ 11 and contributions made to the risk management industry. Studdert is president, CEO and chairman of the board for NES Rentals Holdings in Chicago. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer and executive vice president of United Airlines, who, on Sept. 11, 2001, decided to ground the entire UAL fleet.
* Professor Emerita Donna Bauerly for her service and contributions made to the teaching profession and Loras. She started at Loras in 1971 as an English instructor. In 1980, she became the department chairwoman of the Division of Humanities, English and Continuing Education. In 1983, Bauerly was promoted to full professorship. She then served as chairwoman of Loras Faculty Senate. She was the first woman at Loras to attain those roles. Bauerly retired from Loras in 2007.
* Thomas Hunt for his service to and scholarly work done for Catholic education. Hunt has written or co-authored several books about the history of Catholic teaching and education. He teaches at the University of Dayton.
