Pussy Riot unleashes viral video response to Russian oppression

February 21, 2014

Members of Pussy Riot were attacked during a protest performance in Sochi on Thursday. Russian Cossacks pepper-sprayed and beat the punk activists as bystanders captured the government's oppression on video.

In response, Pussy Riot has released a new music video on YouTube containing footage of the attack, titled, "Putin will teach you how to love the motherland."

The video depicts the band's balaclava mask-wearing members being assaulted as they perform in front of a Winter Olympics advertisement. Raucous guitar and drum riffs sonically underscore horrific images of police brutality, as band members are repeatedly whipped and bloodied. Meanwhile, the band sings:

Sochi is blocked -- Olympic surveillance

Special forces, weapons, crowds of cops

FSB is an argument, the police is an argumentState TV will run your applause.

Putin will teach you how to love the motherland ...

For TV Rain they've shut down the airwaves

They took gay pride down the washroom

A two-ass toilet -- a priority

Sentence to Russia, medium security, 6 years

Putin will teach you how to love the motherland

Pussy Riot may have produced a new anthem for political dissidents who have been routinely oppressed by Vladimir Putin's regime.
