McCLUNG FOR KIDS
The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture has two family friendly events going on in the next few days. First it's a Family Fun Day 1:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the University of Tennessee museum. The event focuses on the museum's exhibit "Brightly Beaded: North American Indian Glass Beadwork" and the display's exquisitely made moccasins, vests, belts and other items. The day includes educational activities and children can make a craft to take home. All materials are provided. The program is free; reservations aren't needed. On Monday, Feb. 24, the museum hosts a free stroller tour. That 10-11 a.m. event for parents and caregivers with babies or toddlers will include a tour of the museum's other temporary exhibit, "Glass of the Ancient Mediterranean." The stroller tour is also free but for that you do need reservations. Online registration is preferred at http://mcclungmuseumstrollertour.eventbrite.com. But you can call the museum at 865-974-2144 to make a reservation. The McClung is at 1327 Circle Park Drive on the UT campus.
The Clarence Brown Theatre's next play is "The Trip To Bountiful" starring Carol Mayo Jenkins. The play tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elderly woman who defies her family in her heartfelt need to see her hometown of Bountiful, Texas, one final time. Evening performances are 7:30 p.m.Feb. 21 opening night, Feb. 22, Feb. 26-March 1 and March 5-8. Sunday 2 p.m. matinees are Feb. 23, March 2 and March 9. Adult tickets range from $40 for opening night, $25 for Wednesday or Thursday shows, $30 for Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Discounts are available for students and senior citizens. The local Go! Contemporary Dance Works performs the ballet "The Search for Persephone" at 8 p.m.Feb. 22 and 3 p.m.Feb. 23 at the Bijou Theatre, 803 S. Gay St. More than 45 young dancers will perform in a production that includes the collaboration of five choreographers. Tickets at the door are $27 for adults, $22 for senior citizens or students.
STEP RIGHT UP
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus' "Super Circus Heroes" show is at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum this weekend. Show times are 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.Feb. 21, 1 and 5 p.m.Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. Tickets are $15, $20, $25 with limited $35 VIP, $55 VIP floor and $65 front row seats. Tickets are at www.KnoxvilleTickets.com or 865-656-444. Ticket holders can come to the coliseum an hour before each show to meet performers on the arena floor in a pre-show event.
