In a significant step to enhance the competencies of investment professionals in Oman, the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS)has been collaborating with Muscat Securities Market (MSM) since 2011 to conduct training for specified categories of staff of banks/other companies operating in securities that are licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA). The training prepares participants to take various on-line examinations of the Chartered Securities and Investment Institute (CISI), U.K that have been mandated by CMA and MSM for certain job functions/positions . The 9th batch of preparatory training was held recently for the "Introduction to Investments" examination of CISI. The training was conducted by Mr. Mohamed Farzan Faculty Member, CBFS, who is a Certified Trainer of CISI. The training covered the following key topics- Economic environment, financial assets & markets, equities, bonds, derivatives, investment funds, financial services regulation, other financial products. In the words of Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsin Al Ghassani, Dean of the college of Banking and Financial studies said that: "The college is committed to providing cutting edge training solutions to the banking and financial sector of Oman through providing quality professional development programs for the employees working in this important industry" .He also mentioned that the college is serious in developing professional programs in collaboration with the financial and banking sectors. It is worth mentioning that CBFS has delivered more than 150 training programs last year covering more than 2500 trainees.
