February 20, 2014

MANAMA: The Waqf Fund, a Bahrain-based special fund to support Islamic finance training, education and research, has joined hands with Bahrain University to provide financial support to its four-year bachelor degree in Sharia for banking and finance programme.

University president Dr Ebrahim Janahi thanked Waqf Fund chairman Khalid Hamad for the support.

"The Waqf Fund has already played a crucial role in putting together and developing the curriculum design by providing the needs and requirements of the Islamic financial services sector," he said.

"We welcome this financial support which is important for the programme's success."

Mr Hamad said the graduates of this bilingual programme will be well equipped to work for any Islamic financial institution in Bahrain and globally.

"They will possess a rare knowledge and combination of Sharia, finance, accounting, economics, business, mathematics and both Arabic and English languages.

"They will be exposed to all the initiatives and training programmes of the fund, so they will be kept posted of all the future activities and developments in the field of Islamic financial services.

"We have high expectations from the graduates of this programme and it is a very welcome development for the Islamic finance industry."
