Muscat, Oman - Standard Chartered has appointed Gurchi Kadan as Chief Executive Officer for its operations in the Sultanate of Oman. Gurchi will replace Lamin Manjang who will become the Chief Executive of Standard Chartered in Kenya. Lamin has been leading Standard Chartered's operation in Oman since July 2012. Gurchi has been with Standard Chartered for 14 years and has extensive experience across the bank's network in Asia, Africa and India. In his last role, Gurchi was Regional Head of Network Clients, leading the Bank's international client relationships in Hong Kong. He joined Standard Chartered in India as Head of Transaction Banking in the year 2000. His career with Standard Chartered accelerated and he took roles within the bank in South Africa, Hong Kong and Jakarta, mainly in the Wholesale Banking business where he was Head of Origination and Client Coverage in South Africa and Jakarta. He was also appointed as Global Head of Commercial Real Estate in Hong Kong. Commenting on the appointment, Christos Papadopoulos, Regional Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan and Chairman of Standard Chartered Saadiq, said: "Standard Chartered Bank is one of Oman's oldest banks and over the years we have forged strong relationships with our clients and the community at large. Gurchi is a very experienced banker and his leadership will further deepen our client relationships in the Sultanate. Lamin has done a great job in growing our presence in Oman and I am confident that Gurchi will play a key role in further leading our business to a new level and thus continue to contribute to the development of the country." Earlier is his career, Gucrhi worked in various Transaction Banking roles in India. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics in India.
Standard Chartered Bank Oman opened its first branch in Muscat in 1968. Today, the Bank network consists of three branches with three ATMs. The Bank employs more than 140 employees in Oman. More than 90% of the bank's employees are Omani nationals.
