GET OUT OF TOON I HAVE just worked out the thinking of the Newcastle United's players.
Don't win, don't draw attention to yourself by playing well or you will be sold.
How can a person with all those millions actually want more?
I AGREE entirely with The Northern Echo's editorial (
In fact, I have often written to HAS about the structural weakness of the Euro zone and pointing out the basic flaws of an independent state sharing a currency with others.
The two positions are incompatible. If a state does not control its currency it cannot be truly sovereign.
However, there is another option: an independent
HAS anyone noticed how every time one of their employees is caught trying to poison or trap a bird of prey, country estate owners invariably denounce the culprit as a "rogue gamekeeper" acting under his own volition?
They then go on to issue a statement denying any knowledge of such things taking part on their land.
Presumably, as the perpetrators are invariably caught due to

In my view there is a need for a local specialist children's facility.
However, I do not feel this particular one is sustainable by yet another private provider.
Some years ago a number local specialist care facilities for children were managed by
Have we not learnt the lesson yet that private providers put a huge financial burden upon local authorities which will increase over time? This is money which belongs to the local people.
It may provide 50 new jobs but will these employees be fully qualified in child care?
Many more important questions and answers should have been addressed prior to agreeing planning permission for this facility.

I had visions of Messrs Osborne, Balls and Alexander with a box of eggs, heading for Holyrood.
I sincerely hope not.
Apologies to any other eagleeyed readers who spotted our mistake. A yolk is the yellow part of an egg. The noun yoke refers to servitude.

He will be pleased to know that water companies cannot simply do as they please. They are heavily regulated by Ofwat which looks at all aspects of how water companies are run, how money is spent and how assets are managed and sets charges accordingly.
The fact is, when water companies were nationalised (before 1989, under a Conservative government) networks and treatment were heavily neglected, and the cost to renew them would have been prohibitively expensive.
They were sold off on the proviso that companies had to renew such assets.
If you weren't paying your water bill to Northumbrian Water, you would be paying increased council rates, and the networks would have remained neglected.
Clean drinking water and sewage collection for less than [pounds]1 a day? Pretty good value for money I'd say.
If that's like paying another mortgage, I wish mine was as cheap as yours.
SURELY, it is an injustice for Ukip to expel
David, like many more in our land, Christian or otherwise, believe our nation is suffering under the judgement of God because of the ungodly and sinful laws that are being enacted in Parliament and zealously promoted by our politicians.
Furthermore, if these laws are not repealed and God and his law not given respect and prominence, we can expect even more disasters; for God will not be mocked.
Is this judgement of Ukip an indication of their exclusivity and defiance against Christianity?
If so, it should make it very difficult for Christians to continue in membership or vote in their favour.
I AM sure I am not alone in sympathising with all those who have been so dreadfully affected by the worst flooding since records began.
I am equally sure that most will agree that this Government and its policies have proved inadequate to deal with this and many other situations affecting so many people.
I believe in giving help to those most in need, first and foremost to the people who need help in this country and not to despotic leaders in foreign countries to bolster their private bank accounts through the overseas aid programme.
The Government is elected to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of this country and to spend the money generated through taxation for their benefit.
This Government is failing to fulfill this responsibility in many areas such as our wasteful and over-managed bureaucratic NHS.
The revised welfare policy is currently costing more to administer than it is saving, while ill-thought out policies are putting a strain on hard-up local authorities.
The coalition has also retained expensive and unnecessary quangos - the
The time has come for our socalled leaders to get a grip on reality and realise that they need to prioritise help and support for us.
Scrap most of the overseas aid budget and divert the funds to meet the demands at home.
Let us spend money on humanitarian aid overseas when the need arises, but, at the moment, the need is in providing flood defences and aid to stricken families here at home.
I am going to vote in 2015 for the party that promises to look after the British people first and foremost and that might not be one of the main parties, all of whose policies are presently failing us.
FEARS of a prospective housing bubble in our country could be avoided if planners looked ahead and considered all the land standing idle just waiting to be built on.
Building on this land would relieve the pressure on house prices by meeting demand.
The wider economy would benefit, too.
Councils would be able to levy taxes on new homes, local businesses would enjoy more custom and redundant land would be put to good use.
