Govt to appoint new SBP governor on merit: Dar

Minister for Finance Senator, Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday informed the Upper House that new governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) would be appointed on merit through transparent manner in 90 days. Responding to a calling attention notice, the minister said, "Process of appointing new State Bank of Pakistan Governor is in progress and the new governor will assume the charge within 90 days as per law through transparent selection system." He said that there was no delay regarding the appointed of new SBP governor on behalf of Ministry of Finance. "We are following the due process regarding the appointment of the new governor and the government does not have any favorite," the Minister added.

When asked, the government is appointing Aurangzeb as new governor of SBP, he said, it will be earlier to comment on the issue as no decision has been made yet. The Minister assured the House that efficient, competent and qualified person would be appointed for the post on purely merit basis.
