Feb. 16--SBA Holds Twitter Chat
Young aspiring business owners are invited to learn the basics on how to turn good ideas into profitable ventures at the live Twitter chat Wednesday hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration (@SBAgov).
Tameka Montgomery from SBA's Office of Entrepreneurial Development and Bridget Weston Pollack from SBA's resource partner SCORE will share tips on developing a business plan, ways to get startup financing, and how to overcome those initial hurdles entrepreneurs face when starting out.
The event will be held during National Entrepreneurship Week, Feb. 15-22, using hashtag #sbaEwee.
Small business owners Dan Price, co-founder and CEO of Gravity Payments (@DanPriceSeattle) and Genevieve F. Thiers, CEO and Founder of Sittercity.com (@genevievethiers) will share their stories of creating a successful company. Price and Thiers are former SBA National Young Entrepreneur award winners.
No registration is needed, but you must have a Twitter account.
Century Farm Family Applications Sought
The Arkansas Agriculture Department is accepting applications for the 2014 Arkansas Century Farm program. Applications must be postmarked by May 31 to be eligible for designation in 2014.
The program recognizes Arkansas' rich agricultural heritage and honors families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years. Since the program's inception in 2012, 185 farms have been certified as Arkansas Century Farms.
To qualify, farms must have been in the same family for 100 years by Dec. 31, 2014. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings, and nephews or nieces, including through marriage and adoption. The farm must be at least 10 acres of the original land acquisition and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.
Qualified applicants will be presented with a personalized metal sign and a certificate. Only the legal owners of the land may apply.
