TORONTO - The Canadian dollar closed at 91.10 cents U-S, up 0.17 of a cent from Wednesday's close.

The S-and-P/T-S-X composite index was up 101.16 points to 14,001.65.

Volume at 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time was 431.09 (m) million shares.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 63.65 points to 16,027.59.

The Standard-and-Poor's 500 index added 10.57 points to 1,829.83.

In the New York Mercantile Exchange, the gold futures for April closed at 1,300 dollars, 10 cents U-S per ounce, up 5 dollars, 10 cents.

The March crude contract closed at 100 dollars, 35 cents U-S per barrel, down two cents.
