Kyrgyz banks' credit portfolio rating: Former micro-credit company nears Top 5

February 13, 2014

The business news site Tazabek has published the information on the size of net credits extended by commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan as of 31 December 2013 (less reserves for possible losses from loans). Credits of commercial banks (amounts owed by the end of the period) under the rating by 31 December 2013 made 53,961,602,000 som, by 31 December 2012 40,105,375,000 som. Growth of gross credit portfolio of the banking system is contributed by two factors, Marat Musuraliyev, a member of the Board of Directors of a bank, told Tazabek. First, Bai Tushum has transformed from a micro-credit company into a commercial bank. When Bai Tushum was a micro-credit company, its accounting was in the segment of micro-credit companies, not it has become a bank and its credit portfolio of 3.5 billion som has moved into the banking sector, the expert explained. The second factor is growth of credit portfolios of other commercial banks. Kyrgyzstan has high interest rates and it is beneficial for a foreign investor to make investments into local banks, Mr. Musuraliyev spotlighted. Optima Bank OJSC tops the rating. Its credit portfolio totaled 9.061 billion som by the end of the fourth quarter of 2013 (by December 31, 2012 6.442 billion som). It is followed by the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank with net credits in the amount of 7,189,597,000 som (in 2012 5,531,720,000 som). The government-run Aiyl Bank OJSC is on the third place 4.692 billion som (in 2012 3,175,430,000 som). The Demir Kyrgyz International Bank is the fourth with 4,654,726,000 som in credits. The RSK Bank is the fifth with credits for 4,430,038,000 som. The net credits of such banks as Kazcommertsbank Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek branch of National Bank of Pakistan, Issyk-Kul Investment Bank declined in 2013 comparing to 2012: - Kazcommertsbank Kyrgyzstan decline from 177,774,000 som in 2012 to 79,372,000 som in 2013; - Bishkek branch of the National Bank of Pakistan decrease from 216271 million som in 2012 to 136.319 million som in 2013; - Issyk-Kul Investment Bank decline from 10.685 million som in 2012 to 7.074 million som in 2013. The analysis has revealed 12 commercial banks in Kyrgyzstan that extended credits in 2013 for more than 1 billion som. In 2012, such banks made 11. The Bakai Bank OJSC has joined the group this year. # Banks ByDecember 31, 2012 By December 31, 2013 Increase/decline compared to 2012 1 Optima Bank 6,422,159,000 som 9,061,265,000 ?2,639,106,000 2 Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank 5,531,720,000 som 7,189,597,000 ?1,657,877,000 3 Aiyl Bank 3,175,430,000 som 4,692,003,000 ?1,516,573,000 4 Demir Kyrgyz International Bank 3,501,338,000 som 4,654,726,000 ?1,153,388,000 5 RSK Bank 4,063,197,000 som 4,430,038,000 ?366.841 mln 6 Micro-Finance Bank Bai Tushum and Partners 2,932,667,000 som 4,092,655,000 ?1,159,988,000 7 Commercial Bank Kyrgyzstan 2,886,089,000 som 3,923,903,000 ?1,037,814,000 8 Rosinbank 1,432,979,000 som 3,120,442,000 ?1,687,463,000 9 BTA Bank 2,142,157,000 som 2,397,910,000 ?255,753,000 10 Halyk Bank Kyrgyzstan 1,199,130,000 som 1,718,188,000 ?519.058 mln 11 Amanbank 1,446,869,000 som 1,544,259,000 ?97.039 mln 12 Bakai Bank 677.534 mln som 1,045,940,000 ?368.406 mln 13 DosCredoBank 662.817 mln som 984,001,000 ?321.184 mln 14 EcoIslamicBank* 902.147 mln som 969,715,000 ?67.568 mln 15 Finance Credit Bank 504.806 mln som 964.494 mln ?459.688 mln 16 Tolubai 704.067 mln som 854.155 mln ?150.088 mln 17 Bank of Asia 542.688 mln som 714.505 mln ?171.817 mln 18 Capital Bank 298,000 som 156.496 mln ?156.198 mln 19 Bishkek branch of National Bank of Pakistan 216.271 mln som 136.319 mln ?79.952 mln 20 Manas Bank 131.63 mln som 134.53 mln ?2.9 mln 21 Kazcommertsbank Kyrgyzstan 177.774 mln som 79.372 mln ?98.402 mln 22 Kyrgyz-Swiss Bank (Kyrgyzdyikanbank) 0 75.461 mln ?75.461 mln 23 Kyrgyz Credit Bank 49.18 mln som 23.991 mln ?25.189 mln 24 Issyk-Kul Investment Bank 10.685 mln som 7.074 mln ?3.611 mln Sources: reporting of the commercial banks, information on Kyrgyz-Swiss Bank is based on data from the Erkin Too newspaper. * Net cost of funds provided to clients under shariah compliant financing The following banks were in Top 10 credit portfolios in 2012: - UniCreditBank [current Optima Bank] 6,422,159,000 som; - Kyrgyz Investment and Credit bank 5,531,720,000 som; - RSK Bank 4,063,197,000 som; - Demir Kyrgyz International Bank 3,531,338,000 som; - Aiyl Bank 3,175,430,000 som; - Commercial Bank Kyrgyzstan 3,044,352,000 som; - Micro-Finance Bank Bai Tushum and Partners 2,932,667,000 som; - BTA Bank 2,034,072,000 som; - Amanbank 1,451,458,000 som; - Zalkar Bank [current Rosinbank] 1,432,979,000 som.
