The minister also said that government has concluded plans to establish 400 Agricultural Equipment Hiring Centres in the 36 states of the federation under the 2014 Growth Empowerment Support (GES) scheme.
Adesina said this yesterday in Jos, Plateau state during a tour of top management staff of the ministry to agricultural facilities in the state.
He observed that female farmers who constitute the majority of farming population have recorded about 98 per cent repayment rate as against the male counterparts who pay less.
"We are going to work very actively with you to help in this finance, because there is no reason why at least 30 per cent of all bank lending shouldn't be going to women, they are the majority of the farmers and we believe it is time to have an affirmative action with regards to women to make sure they get both extensions, access to finance, better access to market because investing in women secures the lives of a household and the destiny of a nation," he said.
He added that women have proved to be better farmers but regrettably, do not get much support like the men.
"If you look at the majority of our farmers, they are women and they are better farmers, but they do not get as much support as the men do, but one of the thing that encourages me is that the women are all getting their fertilisers through the GES which creates empowerment for them," he added.
Ealier, the Facilitator of women farmers under the FADAMA III project, Mrs.
Afan explained that the success recorded by Growth Empowerment Support (GES) scheme to women farmers in the state was unprecedented, adding that all the 35,000 women in her group had accessed their inputs of 3 bags of fertilisers.
"The GES has been beneficial to all the women of Plateau state as we all received our fertilisers and seeds through the phone and it have improved our farming facilities," she said.
The minister stated further that four out of the 400 centres to be established would be located in Plateau state and another four in Benue, while other will be spread throughout other states of the federation.
