GAMEVIL Selects Violin Flash Memory Array to Deliver Premium Publishing Services to Game Developers

February 12, 2014

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Violin Memory®, Inc. (NYSE:VMEM), a leader in persistent memory-based storage solutions, today announced it has been chosen by GAMEVIL, Korea’s leading mobile game publisher, to help deliver premium publishing services to its customers. GAMEVIL’S platform is used to develop and publish hundreds of games on multiple platforms. Using a Violin® 6000 Series Flash Memory Array, GAMEVIL was able to increase server performance by an average of seven times, enabling the company to differentiate its publishing services and to further solidify its position as the market leader in the domestic mobile game market.

Founded in 2000, GAMEVIL is the top mobile game publishing company in Korea and works with more than 70 of the top game publishing studios around the globe. GAMEVIL successfully launched the Baseball Superstars game, which became the first game in Korea to cumulatively hit 10 million downloads. GAMEVIL is also the first Korea-based game developing company to implement flash memory-based storage to support their publishing services.

“We talked to other companies who had implemented Violin flash memory solutions similar to the GAMEVIL environment, which is built on VMware virtualization technology,” said Tae-Kwang Youn, the team leader of the Cloud Development Office in the Infrastructure Development Headquarters at GAMEVIL. “We walked through actual scenarios for solution deployment and operation, and after careful consideration we were confident the Violin solution could deliver the performance and reliability we required. We look forward to Violin Memory's role in helping GAMEVIL deliver premium gaming services that differentiate our company.”

“GAMEVIL’s move to implement Violin flash memory is very significant because the storage system, which was used for simple storage, is now harnessed as a tool for service differentiation,” said Lee Young-soo, Korea country manager at Violin Memory. “Many industries and market segments are introducing flash memory storage into their business-critical applications to enhance their service quality and to experience the exceptional performance.”
