Russian deputy speaker expresses interest in Islamic banking

| JEDDAH, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr. Ahmad Mohammad Ali held talks Monday with Russian Federation Council deputy speaker Ilyas Umakhanov on bilateral cooperation in Islamic banking.

Umakhanov praised the IDB's role to supporting the Muslim community in Russia, an IDB statement said.

The Russian lawmaker and Ali discussed the IDB's role in the development of Islamic banking worldwide, and how Russia would be benefitting from the Islamic banking industry.

Umakhanov invited Ali to visit Russia to meet with officials in the banking sectors who were interested in the Islamic finance.

Ali said the IDB was ready to assist Russia in every possible way to develop the Islamic banking in the country. (end) KUNA 102350 Feb 14NNNN
