Olea Sensor Networks announced today its product roadmap for first responders and military personnel using its new OS-3001 Intelligent Multi-Sensor Data Acquisition Platform. Olea developed its existing sensor hub product working with a major vehicle manufacturer, with a focus on monitoring vital signs of vehicle drivers and passengers for various purposes. This technology also has very broad application beyond the automotive industry and, importantly, can also be used to protect the lives of first responders and soldiers who operate in dangerous environments.
Frank Morese, Olea’s founder and CEO, explained, “Olea’s technology can be used as the basis of an early warning system to protect the lives of those engaged in various search and rescue operations. By far, the leading cause of death for firefighters is heart attack due to stress and lack of oxygen. A system that monitors a firefighter’s physical state and alerts him to take protective action before he suffers a heart attack would prevent many injuries and fatalities. In the battlefield context, a system that informs a rescue and recovery team whether an injured soldier is still alive and the severity of his condition, such as whether he is hemorrhaging, would better enable the rescue team to know when to risk their own lives and how much time they have to reach and rescue the injured soldier.”
Reginald Hyde, Senior Advisor at The Chertoff Group and former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, added, “We have been searching for technology that would enable us to monitor our soldiers in the field in order to minimize casualties. The goal is to save lives by preventing further casualties as efforts are made to rescue or recover personnel who have perished or been seriously wounded. This important technology has very broad application and eventually could make a real difference in protecting our men and women who put themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis.”
Olea’s founder and CEO, Frank Morese, continued, “Olea’s OS-3001 sensor hub is wireless and doesn’t require physical contact with the user or any user intervention, and it can function through various types of protective gear and body armor. It is currently the size of a typical smartphone, although our design plans include much smaller chip-scale form factors. Our technology can also be used in conjunction with GPS and new mobile and cloud-based service platforms to provide very compelling solutions for coordinating remote search and rescue operations.”
Olea’s OS-3001 Intelligent Multi-Sensor Data Acquisition Platform is currently available in limited supply for non-clinical research and development use, including field trials and testing. This sensor hub integrates a variety of sensors including the Olea HeartSensor™, which wirelessly captures a person’s unique heart signal. Olea also offers a signal analyzer and data display and analytic software needed to efficiently, securely and wirelessly transmit vital data to service providers. Future applications will include a biofeedback system for training first responders and soldiers.
