January 28, 2014

PERTH, Australia , Jan. 28 -- Murdoch University issued the following news: Budding photographers can now hone their skills using the world-class facilities at Murdoch University . A Bachelor of Arts in Photography is one of the new courses available in 2014, with study options available at the South Street and Rockingham campuses. "Our photography unit has been incredibly popular in recent years and has produced some stunning work," said photography lecturer Rick Mason . "The new course is half theory and half practice, and students will be taking photographs from the first semester." In addition to developing the artistic and technical skills needed to be a professional photographer, students will also learn how to run their own business. "Upon graduation, our students will be independent producers able to market themselves, manage clients and practice their craft," Mr Mason said. "We'll cover a wide variety of areas including fashion photography, advertising, photojournalism, portraiture, light painting, landscapes and many more." Mr Mason urged anyone with a passion for photography to apply, even if they don't meet the traditional criteria for university entry. "The media portfolio entry pathway gives potential students the chance to show us what they have done, and what they can do," he said. "There are also plenty of other pathways, including OnTrack , university preparation courses and special initiatives for those from regional or diverse backgrounds."
