'Three Tenors Plus One' puts fun in classic music

Jan. 27 --The Opera Club of The Villages will sponsor a benefit performance of "Three Tenors Plus One" -- take-off of the famous Three Tenors featuring popular Broadway selections and opera arias -- at 4 and 7 p.m. Friday at St. Timothy Catholic Church , 1351 Paige Place , Lady Lake . The tenors for the lighthearted show are Oscar Feliu , Alexey Kukharskiy and Devin Eatmon . The Plus One is mezzo soprano Juliana Curcio . Maestro Bill Doherty will accompany the vocalists on piano. Proceeds will benefit the Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship Fund , which provide scholarships to graduating high-school seniors in the tri-county area who plan to study music education. Tickets are $20 for residents of The Villages and $25 for nonresidents. Tickets are available at The Villages box offices or visit thevillagesentertainment.com . Book lover's fair The Writers League of The Villages and Bookworm Book Club are sponsoring "A Vivacious Villages Valentine," a book lover's fair hosted by Mark Newhouse and Bill Russell , from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake Miona Recreation Center , 1526 Buena Vista Blvd. , The Villages . The free event will feature authors, live music, party food and contests. Some of the authors include Gary Corsair, who wrote "The Groveland Four: The Sad Saga of a Legal Lynching;" Leonard Territo and Nataliya Glover , who wrote "Criminal Investigation of Sex Trafficking in America;" and Katherine Mitchell , who writes romance novels. Creature stuntman Stuntman Ricou Browning , who doubled as the half human/half fish character in the movie "Creature From the Black Lagoon and two sequels, will be at Uncle Al's Time Capsule during the annual Mount Dora Arts Festival this weekend. Browning, creator of the "Flipper" movie and director of the underwater segments of the James Bond thriller "Thunderball," will sell some of his memorabilia from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Uncle Al's, 140 E. Fourth Ave. Details: 352-383-1958. Auditions Auditions for Ocala Civic Theatre production of Neil Simon's comedy "The Odd Couple" will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 and 4 at the theater, 4337 E. Silver Springs Blvd. ( East State Road 40 ) in the Appleton Cultural Center . The play is about two mismatched buddies who find themselves living together after their marriages fail. The play has a cast of six men and two women. Newcomers are welcome. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Copies of the script may be checked out in advanced with a refundable $10 deposit. Rehearsals will begin Feb. 10 and meet from 7 to 10 p.m. weekdays. The show will open March 20 and run for 20 performances through April 13 . Those who can't attend the scheduled auditions may call the box office for an appointment.
