Adopting successful corporate governance models urged

A seminar on "Rules of Corporate Governance for the Public Sector Companies" hosted by the Southern Regional Committee (SRC) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) in collaboration with Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and World Bank here stressed the need of adopting corporate governance models as adopted by countries like Singapore, Malaysia & China . Adnan Rizvi , CPD Convener SRC, opened the session by recitation from the Holy Quran and gave a brief background in respect of the seminar topic. The key note speaker was Syed Asad Ali Shah , Past President ICAP & Partner, M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co. Chartered Accountants, a Member Firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited . He gave a detailed presentation on the seminar topic covering its background as well as the specifics along with sharing his expert views on the practical implementation of various Rules. The presentation was very well received by the participants as it contained comprehensive material on the seminar topic. A panel discussion followed the key note speech wherein Fuad Azim Hashimi , President & CEO, Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance , Nazir A. Shaheen , Executive Director, Corporatization & Compliance Department , SECP, Kamran Mirza , CEO, Pakistan Business Council and Ms. Sarwat Aftab , Senior Private Sector Development Specialist, World Bank participated as panelists while. Moin Fudda, Country Director, Center for International Private Enterprise was the moderator. The key note speaker Syed Asad Ali Shah also joined the panel. Moin Fudda conducted the panel discussion in his inimitable style whereby he not only asked the most relevant questions from all the panelists but also shared some interesting and relevant personal experiences which provided an opportunity to the participants to enjoy some lighter moments in an otherwise serious discourse. The elite panel ended up having most useful discussion thereby providing excellent knowledge to the participants on different facets of the seminar topic. The panel discussion was followed by a lively Q&A session. The session chairman, Syed Salim Raza - Former Governor State Bank of Pakistan , concluded the session by highlighting various aspects of the seminar topic that came under discussion. He also shared views on certain aspects of the governance models in respect of Public Sector Companies which have been successfully adopted by countries like Singapore, Malaysia & China . Junaid Shekha , Chairman SRC, closed the session with a vote of thanks.
