On the same day 50 years ago, the Olympic torch had arrived in Okinawa ahead of the 1964 Tokyo Summer Games. Although Okinawa was under U.S. administration at the time, it was felt to be the moment the torch had arrived in Japan . ---------- Dollar trades in lower 102 yen zone in early Tokyo deals TOKYO - The U.S. dollar traded in the lower 102 yen zone early Monday in Tokyo , after hitting a one-and-a-half-month low in the upper 101 yen range at one point, down from its levels in New York on Friday. At 9 a.m. , the dollar fetched 102.06-08 yen compared with 102.34-44 yen in New York and 103.36-37 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Friday . The euro was quoted at $1.3687-3688 and 139.69-73 yen against $1.3673-3683 and 139.90-140.00 yen in New York and $1.3686-3687 and 141.46-50 yen in Tokyo late Friday afternoon. ---------- Nikkei falls below 15,000 for 1st time since mid-Nov. TOKYO - The Nikkei stock index fell below the 15,000 threshold for the first time since mid-November in early morning trading on Monday as selling was spurred after plunges in U.S. and European shares and the yen's appreciation amid worries over a sell-off of emerging market currencies. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 428.55 points, or 2.78 percent, from Friday to 14,963.01. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 35.10 points, or 2.78 percent, at 1,229.50.
