Lenovo acquires IBM server

January 24, 2014

Chinese PC maker Lenovo has agreed to buy IBM's low-end server business for $2.3 billion (pound(s)1.4bn) in what will be China's biggest technology deal.

The acquisition comes nearly a decade after Lenovo bought IBM's loss-making ThinkPad business for $1.75bn before eventually becoming the world leader in personal computers in 2012.

The sale of the server operation, which has still to receive US government approval, would increase Lenovo's market share from 2% to 14%.
