Patterson are joining the firm to lead a new Public and Strategic Affairs practice based in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Rouse and Patterson will advise clients, including business leaders, foundations, and non-profit organizations, on strategic planning, public affairs, communications and reputational challenges, crisis management and other needs. They will significantly enhance the firm's capacity to provide legal services to clients on complex issues involving public policy and communications. Rouse, who served as Counselor to President Obama and earlier was White House Chief of Staff, and Patterson, who was Chief of Staff at the Department of the Treasury under Secretaries Timothy F. Geithner and Jacob J. Rouse Pete Rouse served as Counselor to President Obama , having previously worked as Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor. He was a co-chair of the Obama-Biden Transition Project , a Senior Advisor to President Obama 's campaign, and Chief of Staff to then-Senator Barack Obama . Known as the "101st Senator" for his extensive knowledge of Congress , Rouse served as Chief of Staff to members of the United States Congress for more than thirty years. A lawyer with extensive experience in public policy, political strategy, communications and crisis management, Patterson was for many years a senior staff member in the United States Senate , where he worked as Policy Director for Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle , and before that as Democratic Staff Director and Chief Counsel at the Senate Committee on Finance , where Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan was the Ranking Democrat. He was Senator Moynihan’s longest-serving chief aide on the Finance Committee .
