Family-friendly events: 'Ramona Quimby' play, monster truck show, live music

Jan. 24 --'RAMONA QUIMBY': The Oak Ridge Junior Playhouse presents the play " Ramona Quimby ," based on the characters from the children's books. Shows are at 1 and 4 p.m. Jan. 25 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 . Tickets are $10 at www.orplayhouse.com or 865-482-9999. The playhouse is at 227 Broadway in Oak Ridge . MUSICAL KIDSTUFF: It's the last Saturday of January. (Yes, already.) That means that it's time for the WDVX weekly music show "Kidstuff" hosted by Sean McCollough to turn into its monthly "Kidstuff Live." The show is at the Knoxville Visitors Center, 301 S. Gay St. , 10-11 a.m. Jan. 25 . You're invited to be part of the live audience. This month, singer Robinella and members of her family will perform. "Kidstuff Live" is free. MONSTER JAM: Like big trucks? Really, really big trucks? The Knoxville Monster Jam is 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 at the Thompson-Boling Arena on the University of Tennessee campus. Tickets start at $10 for children, $25 for adults with $30 "VIP" and $45 front row seats. What are monster trucks? They're custom-designed machines that weigh at least 10,000 pounds, are about 12 feet tall, 12 feet wide and sit on 66-inch tall tires. If you go, there's a "Party in the Pits" event 5-6:30 p.m. to see the trucks up close and meet their drivers. "Party in the Pits" tickets are $10 . DISNEY SIGHTINGS: Two actors from Disney television series will be appearing at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies this month and next. Adam Irigoyen who plays "Deuce" on the Disney TV series "Shake It Up" is at the aquarium 2-5 p.m. Jan. 25 . On Feb. 1 , Blake Michael , who plays Tyler on the program "Dog with A Blog" will be at the Gatlinburg aquarium 2-5 p.m. Visitors pay the regular aquarium admission plus a dollar to see and have photos made with Adam or Blake. The young actors will be in the aquarium's Discovery Classroom. Regular aquarium admission is $26.99 for adults, $15.99 for children ages 6-11, $7.99 for ages 2-5; online ticket prices at the aquarium website are $24.99 , $14.99 and 6.99. The aquarium is located at traffic light number five in Gatlinburg . CRAFTS AT MCCLUNG: The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture hosts a free family fun day 1:30-4:30 p.m. Jan. 25 to show off its new exhibit "Glass of the Ancient Mediterranean." The afternoon includes activities for children and their families that will focus on the exhibit. Children also can make a craft to take home. The program is free, and all materials are provided.
