China : SUZHOU POWER TECHNOLOGY to design chip using IBM technology

Suzhou PowerCore Technology will design a chip using IBM POWER technology.

The two companies and the Research Institute of Jiangsu Industrial Technology have announced that the two Chinese establishments will join the OpenPOWER Foundation.

Suzhou PowerCore plans to make use of IBM's POWER architecture to offer bespoke chip design solutions to push server innovation in areas like big data, cloud computing and next generation data centers.

Suzhou PowerCore will permit the IBM POWER architecture and intellectual property associated with POWER8 and chip design tools, for the development and markeing of processors for servers in China.

Vice President and IBM Fellow, IBM Systems & Technology Group, Bradley McCredie, said : 'The proposed collaboration between Suzhou PowerCore, the Research Institute of Jiangsu Industrial Technology and IBM will benefit those innovative businesses in China that are aggressively taking advantage of big data and cloud computing to capture growth in such industries as banking, communications, retail and transportation.'
