Col. Marcel Harakal (Ret.)
Col. Marcel Harakal, retired from the armed forces in Slovakia, is a valuable, very active AFCEA member who promotes the association and its activities. He supported the establishment of the first AFCEA student club in Slovakia; promotes AFCEA and its activities to young AFCEA members; and supports regional and European AFCEA events serving program committees and organizational committees.
Col. Harakal has been a member of AFCEA since 2003, and he has been vice president for membership of the AFCEA Slovak Chapter since 2006. Since 2004, he has been the general chairman of the International Scientific Conference "Communication and Information Technology-KIT" in TatranskÉ Zruby, High Tatras.
Col. Harakal currently serves as vice rector for science of the Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav StefÁnik, Liptovskÿ MikulÁS, Slovakia. From 1983 to 1989, he worked as a research engineer at the Military Research Institute in Liptovsky MikulÁS. In 1989, he joined the armed forces and worked in various teaching and managerial positions at the Department of Informatics. During his university career from 2004 to 2012, he led the Department of Informatics.
His research interests include computer engineering, image processing, cybersecurity and network operations. He is the guarantor of the bachelor degree study program, computer systems, networks and services. He received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Slovak Technical University in Bratislava in 1983, and in 1997 he successfully completed his doctoral studies in artificial intelligence.
