S&P/TSX close

TORONTO - The Standard-and-Poor's/T-S-X index climbed 36.43 points to 13,988.20. Volume at 4:15 p.m. E-T was 454.98 (m) million shares. Eight of the 13 subgroups closed higher, led by info tech at 38.320, up 0.8 of a point, or 2.13 per cent. Gold led the decliners, losing 3.17 points, or 1.75 per cent, to 177.820.
