Governors Summit - Day Two

9:24am : Makueni Senator Kivutha Kibwana says PPPs "are in their infancy" in the country and even globally. Counties are not able to do credible PPP unless it is done by the national government. The issues should, therefore, be discussed in a legal framework. Counties can however work with private partners. 9:11 am : Governor Ken Lusaka says the PPP act does not give governors a role in the counties. He urges the government to bring on board at least two public projects in the counties. Kiprono Kitonny of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce says the projects need not be a large project, it could be for instance in the provision of parking in the counties.He says Kenyan businesses are being outcompeted by Chinese companies. 9:06 am : Rafiki DTM, microfinance bank representative says the area of area of convergence between counties and private businesses in county development is in public-private partnerships. The challenge is in area is in getting capital and the required infrastructure. "Let the partnerships begin with what we are already in serving in." 8:55 am : The summit opens. Today it is on public-private partnerships and is being moderated by NTV's business editor Wallace Kantai 8:40 am : The Governors Summit on Leadership and Governance resumes for the second day Tuesday.
