Elton John to pay homage to Liberace at Emmys ceremony

September 9, 2013

British rock 'n' roll icon Elton John is to perform a tribute to the late musician Liberace at the Emmy Awards show in Los Angeles, E! News said.

The prize presentation is to take place Sept. 22.

"Behind the Candelabra," a TV movie about Liberace's life, is up for 15 Emmys, awards honoring the year's best in television.

The performance, which will accompany an appearance by Emmy-nominated "Candelabra" co-stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, will mark John's first time on the TV awards show. It coincides with the Sept. 24 release of "The Diving Board," his first studio album in seven years, E! News said.
