Sept. 05--Love is in the air this weekend on TV, and so are bayou folks mutating into gators, a team desperately trying to save the world, and an innocent and endearing version of Ricky Gervais you've probably never seen in a new web series.
Don't feed the gators
It's on to a new B-movie this weekend with Syfy introducing yet another campy film where beer and a sense of humor will get you through "Ragin' Cajun Redneck Gators." The film debuts at 8 p.m. Thursday on cable 45.
It appears something is making the down-home folks in the bayou mutate into gators. Jordan Hinson ("Eureka") stars.
Watch a classic
"Metropolis," Fritz Lang's silent black-and-white film about a mad scientist who threatens the future of a city, is making an appearance at 7 p.m. Friday on TCM, cable 210.
"Generally considered the first great science-fiction film, 'Metropolis' (1926) fixed for the rest of the century the image of a futuristic city as a hell of scientific progress and human despair," according to iconic film critic Roger Ebert. See a clip at tulsaworld.com/metropolis
Netflix begins streaming all episodes of the bittersweet comedy-drama "Derek" at 11:01 p.m. Saturday.
The 30-minute comedy-drama follows a group of outsiders like Derek Noakes, a tender-hearted man who loves his job at a retirement home. And then there is his wholly unlucky co-worker and landlord Dougie, a lovable trainwreck named Kev and Derek's best friend Hannah, an unlucky-in-love manager. The show ran last year on the UK's Channel 4. Gervais stars in, wrote and directed. See the trailer at tulsaworld.com/derek
