Sept. 29--The Redfield Area Concert Association season will kick off Thursday night (Oct. 3) with a concert by Goldwing Express.

The four-man group specializes in bluegrass and country music with a touch of comedy.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield.

Goldwing Express is comprised of a father and three sons. The name of the group comes from the Honda Gold Wing motorcycles the boys rode in the late 1980s. The group, now based in Branson, Mo., originally hails from Okmulgee, Okla.

The father and lead singer is Bob Baldridge, who also plays mandolin.

Brothers Paul, Steven and Shawn make up the rest of the ensemble. Paul, the oldest, sings high tenor and plays guitar. He does much of the bluegrass singing for the group. Steven, the middle son, sings mostly baritone and plays the banjo. He adds gospel music to the show. Shawn plays the upright bass fiddle and sings the low-end notes.

"He likes to spice things up a bit in performances with his strong, deep voice sounding off a long train whistle," according a news release.

The group devotes a segment of the program to the boys' American Indian heritage. Their mother is a full-blooded member of the Creek Indian tribe.

The show includes classic Southern gospel and contemporary country favorites, including "Cool Water," "Country Roads," "Dueling Banjos," "Wagon Train" and "Streets of Gold."

Admission is by season membership in the Redfield Area Concert Association. Memberships will be sold at the door prior to the performance.

An adult membership is $40. A family membership, for two adults with children, is $85. A student membership, for those younger than 18, is $10.
