The majority of Australia's 8.5 million mobile phone data users now have a monthly allowance over 1 GB, up from 20 percent in 2010, according to Roy Morgan Research. However 14 percent of users do not know or can't say what their data allowance is. Some 32 percent of mobile users now have a data allowance from 1 GB to less than 2 GB, and 20 percent have an allowance greater than 2 GB per month, excluding unlimited. Only 22 percent of users have an allowance less than 50 0MB per month, down from 46 percent three years ago. The average expenditure of mobile data users in the most popular allowance bracket of 1-2 GB is AUD 67 per month, although this could also include non-data phone and text charges and device repayments. Mobile data users in the 1-2 GB bracket spend a combined AUD 180 million per month on their phones, almost double the combined AUD 95 million per month.
