Cutting Hall is a beautiful, historic theater that opened in 1928 and is maintained and operated by the Palatine Park District.
Many park district and community groups utilize this facility to present plays, musicals, concerts, dance recitals, films, corporate meetings and other events. They include two resident theater companies -- Theatre Nebula and Music On Stage -- that produce three or more shows per season.
Award-wining Theatre Nebula kicks off its 15th season at Cutting Hall with the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." The professional cast, creative choreography, inventive scenic design and lighting and costume design make this a show not to be missed. It will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Sept. 29.
Art Reach, a new renter, will present "Shrek: The Musical" Oct. 25 to Nov. 3, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. There is no show Oct. 27.
Music On Stage will present its first show of the season, "White Christmas," Nov. 16 to Dec. 1, with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Music On Stage has been performing at Cutting Hall for more than 50 years.
Keeping with the holiday theme, Theatre Nebula will present its family favorite, "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus," based on the classic book by "The Wizard of Oz" author L. Frank Baum. This annual holiday tradition has pleased families, young and old alike, for eight seasons. Adults love the lyric language, stylized costumes and choreography, while kids love the fun characters, story and, of course, Santa.
Cutting Hall also is home to the Palatine Children's Chorus, the Palatine Concert Band, all Palatine Park District theater programs for youth, the Second Suburb Players and the Palatine Park District Dance Program.
Regular renters include Thrive Vineyard Church, the Illinois Brass Band, Borne2Dance and several other theater groups.
The prestigious Blue Whiskey Independent Film Festival holds its annual international event at Cutting Hall each July.
With its 21-foot-wide projection screen and powerful video projector and sound system, Cutting Hall is a great venue to see a film or hold a corporate meeting. Wireless hookups to the video and sound system for a laptop ease presentations on the big screen.
Tickets for events may be purchased by visiting the Cutting Hall Box Office during regular hours from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; calling (847) 202-5222; or online at cuttinghall.org. Rental inquiries may be made to Jeff Greene at (847) 991-5318.
