Shorts & Sandals Entertainment released on DVD this week a new documentary film, Risky Business: A Look Inside America's Adult Film Industry, that examines the social, psychological, and economic impact of performing in adult films. What makes people decide to become adult entertainers, how do they go about entering the business, what are their experiences in the business, and how do they deal with career options, finances, and relationships once they exit the business? The documentary also examines proposed regulations that would address current industry issues, including occupational health and safety, such as mandatory STD testing and condom use, and job discrimination once performers decide to leave the industry and pursue conventional employment.
The film's cast includes performers Sunny Leone, Kaylani Lei, Tanner Mayes, Vanessa Lee, Puma Swede, Daisy Duxe, Gracie Glam, Krista Kaslo, Dale DaBone, Joey Ray, Santino Lee, and Jack Lawrence; directors Emily Rigby and Dirty Sanchez; producers Dave Pounder, Scott Hancock, and Cezar Capone; talent agents Kevin O'Neal, Brian Berkenfeld, Karen Stephens, and Eli Thomas; industry executives Diane Duke, Joy King, Michael Klein, and Howard Levine; ex-performers Shawn Loftis (aka Collin O'Neal) and Tiffany Shepherd (aka Leah Lust); constitutional and free speech attorneys J.D. Obenberger, Gregory Piccionelli, and Lawrence Walters; employment and labor attorney Frank Shooster; and public health officials Ricardo Beato, Jose Castro, Sixto Pacheo, and Michael Weinstein of AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
David Mech, the film's producer and director, has lectured on the topic of adult entertainment at several policy and academic institutions, including Indiana University, UCLA, and Emory University. He currently lives in Boca Raton, Florida.
