As the Apache Hadoop project marches toward completion of version 2.0 in the coming months, HDP continues to track as close as possible to this important release to ensure the most stable community technology is made available to the broad enterprise.
"This HDP 2.0 beta release allows organizations to harness the very latest innovations in the Hadoop ecosystem," said
Hortonworks invites customers, partners and others in the community to download HDP 2.0 beta and to participate in the beta process to ensure that we incorporate the widest possible range of feedback in advance of making HDP 2.0 generally available later this year.
Highlights of HDP 2.0 beta include important features across the key services required for enterprise Hadoop adoption: Platform Services: Apache YARNAs the first commercially available platform to include a functional Apache YARN framework, HDP 2.0 beta evolves the compute platform of Hadoop beyond MapReduce so that it can accommodate additional workloads, such as streaming, search and graph processing. All the while, existing MapReduce applications written in HDP 1.x are forward compatible with HDP 2.x. Data Services: Apache Hive/Stinger improvements for performance and SQL compatibilityA key enterprise requirement of Hadoop is interactive query. Where some solutions stop there, HDP scales from gigabytes to petabytes. This release includes the latest set of improvements aimed to increase the performance of Apache Hive as laid out in the Stinger Initiative. For a more detailed outline of Hive advances, please refer to the State of Stinger. Operational Services: Provision, Manage and Monitor Hadoop 2 with Apache AmbariThis release also contains the latest innovation in the Apache Ambari project which adds the ability to automate the installation and configuration of Hadoop 2 components such as YARN, Hive and MapReduce2.
A complete list of new capabilities in HDP 2.0 beta can be found on the Hortonworks blog and in the HDP 2.0 release notes. For additional details on the latest status of the Stinger Initiative to enhance SQL in Hadoop please see the Hortonworks blog.
