FROM filming burlesque promos and international adverts to converting family clips into DVDs a former dentist turned video producer has told The Business about his dynamic trade.
David Strelitz, owner of David Strelitz Video Productions (DSVP), started working in video over three decades ago, and since then has covered a vast range of subjects.
The 60-year-old from Basildon referred to his exciting career as 25 years without a proper job owing to its rich diversity and unknown nature.
Mr Strelitz said: I got into video as a hobby in 1982 following very bad pneumonia. A year later I set up DSVP as a part time business, initially filming weddings and parties. I recall wondering whether the market would cover my initial investment. Thirty years on, the shops that have survived still use my expertise and I have an endless stream of clients having their family memories converted from all types of Cine Film, now of course on to DVD.
DSVP still offers services such as Cine Film and video transfer to DVD, but now produces corporate video and TV commercials. From starting with what was then state-of-the-art VHS equipment, Mr Strelitz now sends TV commercials directly to the ITV and STV advertising servers from the computer they were edited on.
Mr Strelitz continued: In the days of VHS I had one of the largest duplication banks in Essex making tens of thousands of copies over the years. In 1987 I went full time leaving behind my former career in dentistry. Since then the father-of-two has undertaken a diverse range of production and post-production projects and has some interesting anecdotes from his varied career.
He explained: When filming the reconstruction of a glider accident I not only had to fly in a glider pretending to crash but then when being flown home from North Wales in a Cessna, I was involved in a full scale emergency landing.
He has many an impressive accolade with the creation of Paint Effects Workshop, a programme made by Mr Strelitz for The Stencil Store which sold 35,000 copies.
Mr Strelitz said: I also created serious stuff including programmes about Downs Syndrome awareness and dementia.
In 2004 he was introduced to international theatrical producer David King and since then has produced over 20 promotional films for Mr King's production company, Spirit Productions, as well as many TV advertisements.
I recently finished working on a Burlesque promotional film for a late night Las Vegas show and have also been working on a series of interviews for a conference - this shows just how varied my work is. For more information on Mr Strelitz' work visit www.dsvp.co.uk
