Sept. 14--FARMINGTON -- Filming for the "The Reach" starts in Farmington today.

The movie, which stars Michael Douglas and Jeremy Irvine, is expected to be filmed in Farmington, Shiprock and the surrounding areas over the next two months.

All the movie's scenes are less than a 90-minute drive from Farmington, said Allen Burry, the movie's publicist.

Burry didn't say exactly when and where filming will take place to prevent people from flocking to the sets.

A filming notice was sent to downtown businesses and residences this week stating that the movie will be filming today at Lee Properties, 108 N. Behrend Ave.

The notice said there will be traffic closures between noon and 10 p.m. on Behrend Avenue between Arrington Street and Broadway Avenue and on Main Street between Allen and Locke avenues. The alley north of Main Street between Locke and Behrend avenues will be closed.

Farmington police will help with intermittent traffic control. Traffic may be delayed as cameras roll on Arrington Street between Locke and Allen avenues and on Broadway Avenue between Locke and Allen avenues.

In "The Reach," Douglas' character is a big-game hunter who hires Irvine as his guide. An accidental shooting leads to the thriller's plot.

The production will employ 160 New Mexico crew members and 60 New Mexico actors and extras, according to the New Mexico Film Office.

Burry said the film's actors have arrived in Farmington. Douglas ate and watched the Thursday night football game at Zebra's Sports Grill, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.

Burry said the film's actors were not available for interviews.
