HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 09/11/13 --
Next Wave Health (http://www.nextwavehealth.com), an investment advisory firm and innovator in healthcare information technology, today announced that it has formed Smart Social Media, Inc. (SSM), a software company based in Minneapolis, Minn., dedicated to developing a social media platform (SSM 2.0) that will transform the way hospitals, patients, and healthcare IT departments collaborate and share information. Next Wave Health purchased an existing social media platform (OneXPage) from Digiapolis, Inc. in order to develop the first enterprise social media platform tailored specifically to the unique needs of the healthcare market.
SSM 2.0 is a mobile and web-based social media platform that facilitates the creation of customizable, collaborative (peer-to-peer and enterprise) social experiences to address the complex challenges of healthcare delivery and information management. The cloud-based application is accessible via mobile phones, tablets and computers. The first application built upon the SSM 2.0 engine will be released in mid-October.
SSM is the brainchild of Ivo Nelson, a 28-year healthcare industry veteran, and Eric Lopez, a Minneapolis-based entrepreneur. As CEO, Lopez brings to SSM more than 30 years' experience in developing and marketing enterprise software solutions, with expertise in social media and collaboration.
"As the healthcare industry embraces the social media paradigm, collaboration has become a cornerstone of establishing and adopting best practices," said Lopez. "SSM 2.0 will revolutionize how patients, doctors, and hospital IT departments share information by helping them create custom communities that foster alliances between peers and advisors."
Unlike other social sites, the SSM 2.0 platform is built to accommodate the specific regulatory, security, and privacy requirements of the healthcare industry. SSM will also use the platform as a foundation for custom development of social media applications within health systems.
"Enterprise social media will be a new-term game changer for healthcare due to its ability to link people who might otherwise not be linked, crowd source innovation and problem solving, allow for information sharing and education, and build relationships through communities of people who share common challenges," said Next Wave Health founder Nelson. "We can expect this part of the healthcare market to explode as people become savvy about how drastically enterprise social media can improve efficiencies."
