During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Discovery en Espanol network presents original productions, community events and information about self-improvement and employment opportunities.
Discovery en Espanol is observing Hispanic Heritage Month by showcasing the spirit of achievement and determination shared by Hispanics who immigrate to the U.S. in search of a better future, the cable TV network announced.
The network will present special programming related to immigration every Sunday at 10PM E/P, in addition to its ongoing Descubre tu talent campaign, which provides resources and information in Spanish about job training and opportunities.
The Descubre tu talent campaign is a collaboration with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and its "Latinos On Fast Track" (LOFT) program, which prepares students to transition from high school to college. A series of LOFT events around the country will feature training sessions, lectures and workshops on finance, business, entertainment and education, among other topics. The workshops commence in Texas on Sept. 22.
The network will also be a sponsor of the 9D Media's National Aviation, Education and Sports Tour, which takes place in Hispanic communities in Miami, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Jose, Calif. The tour aims to teach young people about careers in aerospace and aviation.
Speaking of careers, Discovery en Espanol also offers information in Spanish about job opportunities, courses and training, along with tips on validating foreign college degrees in the U.S., searching for jobs and accessing scholarship information.
The network's on-air celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month will include a series of shorts created to showcase the success stories of U.S. Hispanics and the struggles of migrants to the U.S. These documentaries, made by Hispanics for Hispanics, will air Sundays at 10PM E/P.
Featured titles include the Emmy-nominated original production Objetivo: el norte, which tells the story of two young people who follow their family tradition of making the treacherous journey across the U.S.-Mexico border.
