Sept. 11--EDMOND -- Student bands from the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) will perform at the Oklahoma State Fair as a part of the daily "Party at the Pavilion" events, starting Thursday and continuing through Sept. 22. Student bands will perform on the OPUBCO Pavilion stage located just north of 14 Flags Plaza in the heart of the fairgrounds.
Student bands will perform at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on weekend days. Each performance set will last an hour and will feature family friendly cover music spanning from classic rock tunes to today's hits.
"We are thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to perform at this year's State Fair. 'Party at the Pavilion' will be a great time for both our students and audience members," said Scott Booker, CEO of ACM@UCO.
"We encourage everyone to come out and see the immense talent that ACM@UCO students have to offer," he continued.
Performances are free for fair attendees.
The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley. Since then, the program has grown to fill four floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown on Sheridan Ave.
Based on the successful model from the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, "real world" educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music.
From its location in downtown Oklahoma City's Bricktown district, the ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology with a concentration in Contemporary Music degree.
