Aug. 06--Live music, children's shows, night shopping and adrenaline-pumping attractions will make this year's EidFest in Abu Dhabi even more happening.
The celebrations, coordinated by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA), are involving all major entertainment parks and shopping malls in the emirate.
"Eid is an occasion when visitors and residents alike can come together and share the emirate's social atmosphere and diverse celebrations," said Faisal Al Sheikh, director of Events Bureau at ADTCA. For the first time this year, the annual Summerfest here has surpassed its usual month-long shows and entertainment activities and has been extended over Ramadan and Eid, until August 17.
Taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), four action-packed halls are meant to enthral children with attractions such as LEGO Zone, Heritage Arts and Craft Zone, 10-metre Extreme Tower bag jump and Jebel Hafeet -- a gigantic, three-storey obstacle course.
During Eid, August 7-12, the festival's 200-seat Show World auditorium will host Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries. The show will feature Scooby Doo, Shaggy and Mystery Inc. characters singing big musical numbers and having to solve the mystery of a trouble-making ghost.
The show runs twice daily, 4.30pm and 7.30pm, with tickets priced at Dh40 for adults and Dh20 for children under 12 years old.
Also at Adnec there is the annual Ramadan and Eid Festival, which will end on August 10.
The free-to-enter five-hall fair offers a range of consumer goods, gift items, Arabic food, toys and games, as well as traditional song and dance shows. Eid opening hours are from 4pm till midnight.
Yas Island and Ferrari World
While on the Yas Island, an Eidfest concert is being planned at du Forum, on August 10.
The show will be opened by Lebanese singer Yara with a 45-minute performance, followed by Saudi Arabia's Rabeh Saqer with another 45-minute set that will include his hit and will conclude with the performance of the UAE star Hussain Al Jassmi, who will be on stage for one hour.
Concert doors open at 7pm and there are three ticket categories: VIP at Dh495, Premium at Dh350 and Reserve at Dh200.
Yas Island's Ferrari World, said to be the world's largest indoor theme park, is too putting up a 10-day Eid show. During August 9-18, Light Racers will feature America's Got Talent finalist of 2012 Lightwire Theatre, Arabs Got Talent winner Khawater Al Dalam and hip-hop group Urban Grunge. Entry to the daily shows is free with a regular Ferrari World Abu Dhabi ticket.
Otherwise, four ticket categories are available: General Admission Dh235, Junior Admission Dh195, Premium Dh385 and Junior Premium Dh315.
Additionally, major malls and shopping centres across Abu Dhabi will extend their opening hours until 1am or 2am to mark the last fortnight of SummerFest Abu Dhabi and Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
"Our Eidfest Abu Dhabi campaign has evolved into a cornerstone activation to promote Abu Dhabi regionally and internationally as a family holiday destination.
With wide-ranging family entertainment activities, promotion offers and unilateral stakeholder support, we have built a platform which will appeal to everyone in Abu Dhabi," mentioned Al Sheikh.
