Wine Tasting, Music Highlight Labor Day Weekend

August 30, 2013

One of the best ways to end the summer is at the New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo. Twenty-one New Mexico wineries will be featuring the best of the best of their wines for tastings and for purchase. Get there early by car or Rail Runner because lines can be long, but the variety of wines are definitely worth the wait.

There are 21 wineries from around New Mexico partaking in this year's event. They include Acequia Vineyards & Winery, Anasazi Fields Winery, Black Mesa Winery, Casa Rondena Winery, Corrales Winery, D.H. Lescombes, Gruet, Luna Rossa, Santa Fe Vineyards, St. Clair Winery and Vinos de Los Muertos.

Adults 21 and older get a commemorative glass to use for tastings at each winery booth. After you take a sip, feel free to purchase a bottle or two. Some event-goers know a good thing when they taste it and even purchase wines by the case.

Take a break from the wine tastings and take in the sweet sounds of some of popular area bands performing different genres of music from salsa to soul to jazz to contemporary. Albuquerque songstress Cathy McGill will serve as mistress of ceremonies during the event.

Many event-goers often take to the dance floor and show off their best moves as they sway to the music. But, if dancing is not your thing, there are several rows of chairs available where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the entertainment.

Children also have a place to let go and let off some energy at the Tons-of-Fun Kids Zone. The designated area for children offers fun kid activities such as face painting, a clown, a magician and balloon artist.

It is easy to work up an appetite at the wine festival, and the event has your food cravings covered. Offerings include Bread Cheese and Grapes, Day's Famous Indian Fry Bread, French Riviera Bakery, Mr. Powdrell's BBQ and Pars Cuisine, as well as several other tasty wine pairings.

Save some room for food products from area agricultural vendors to take home with you. Vendors include Coonridge Organic Goat Cheese, Corrales Chile Company, New Mexico Pecan Company, Pecos Valley Chile Co., The Old Windmill Dairy and Vigil's Beef Jerky.

For the body, indulge in products from Frolicking Deer Lavender, Laughing Turtle Soap Company and others.

Area artists and artisans also will be part of the event to sell their wares.

Beautiful and unique ceramics, pottery, jewelry, metal art and wood work will be sold at the event. Clothing and accessories also will be featured.
