Aug. 30--Chelsea Wolfe is living a life full of some craziness lately. The singer-songwriter based out of Los Angeles is not only getting ready for a tour, but releasing a new album and finishing up an epic film.
"It all happens at once," she laughs during a recent phone interview. "It comes to a point and then we just have to go on tour."
Wolfe is on a headlining tour in support of her new album, "Pain is Beauty," which will be released on Sept. 3.
Wolfe debuted with her album "The Grime and The Glow" in 2010 and followed it with "Apokalypsis" in 2011, which gained her recognition from indie critics as well as an underground following.
In 2012, Wolfe released "Unknown Rooms: A Collection of Acoustic Songs," which featured a more folk-oriented sound as opposed to her earlier work, which had been heavily centered around droning guitars and distortion.
Wolfe says she began writing the songs with bandmate Ben Chisolm a couple years ago. The duo began to write electronic songs.
"We originally were going to do a side project with just electronic music," she says. "I didn't want to put any limits on my own projects. After a little bit of time, we decided to incorporate the electronic songs into the set."
Wolfe says it took less than a month to record the album and that she didn't want to put a deadline on the material.
"I wanted it to be raw and uninhibited," she says. "That's how I wanted both the recording and music process to be."
As for the film, she says the idea started with filmmaker Mark Pellington.
"He was going to make a video for me," she says. "Then he felt inspired and wanted to do a whole film that was based around four or five songs from the new album. It's been a very different experience for me but I can't wait to see how it all turns out. We've put in a lot of hard work into something different for me."
